The S&P BSE Sensex rose 399.09 points - or 0.99 per cent - to 40,660.22 at the strongest level recorded in early deals, and the broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark climbed to as high as 11,920.70, up 107.2 points - or 0.91 per cent - from its previous close. Buying interest in IT and pharmaceutical shares pushed the markets higher, however selling pressure in banking and financial services stocks limited the upside. -
