The S&P BSE Sensex index slumped 825.54 points from the day's highest level to hit 40,150.48 on the downside in late afternoon deals. The broader NSE Nifty 50 benchmark slid to as low as 11,775.75, having earlier risen to as high as 12,018.65. A selloff in consumer goods, automobile and select financial shares weighed on the markets, however gains in metal stocks limited the downside. -
